About The Adventures of Isabelle

My name is Lisa Heyden and The Adventures of Isabelle is my little corner online where I share my art and photography. I also keep a blog of the same name for musings about the philosophy of art, how-to techniques, and other artistic ideas. The name, Adventures of Isabelle, came from the title of an Ogden Nash poem my father used to read to me as a child.

In my art and photography, I focus on nature with an emphasis on portraiture and abstraction, sometimes with some symbolism thrown in. If you click on the drop down menu at the top you will see that my photography is at times grouped by texture, color, light and reflection, macro, or other theme. I like to set simple goals like these when I go on a shoot because I have found that imposing limits, or perhaps better said, points of focus, leads to the better results.

My photographs are also grouped by tags that you will find by clicking “more info” on the bottom right of each image. Often I like to keep photographs from a particularly interesting shoot grouped together. So if you see among the tags something like this: shoot 012913, that means that there are a number of photographs taken on the same day. Many times these photographs share aspects of that particular day, usually weather conditions, that make them particularly interesting when shown together.

Many of my photographs are taken with a point and shoot camera. The one in my pocket at the moment is a Canon PowerShot SD850 IS. It’s a little old now, but it still does the trick. I also use a Canon Rebel T2i and occasionally a Nikon. Whatever camera I use, it is listed under “more info” as well as the lens I used. The reason a lot of my work is taken with a point and shoot is simple – I want to be ready to take pictures whenever the conditions are right. The point and shoot is literally always on my hip.

Occasionally, I will also include other images under “more info”. Sometimes it is interesting to see an “establishing shot” of the area where I took the picture. This is especially true of macro shots.

I hope you enjoy my artwork. Please visit often as I will be adding new images regularly!

I worked hard to get this website up and running, but it would have been much harder and taken much longer if I didn’t have the help of others out there in Internet World. For that reason I would like to give a few of them some credit in thanks for their coding advice, plugins, and other useful tools that they’ve offered all for free.

The drop-down menu at the top of this site is thanks to Chris Coyier at css-tricks.com.

I also took advantage of the free blank starter theme available at html5reset.org to create my theme for this WordPress site.

I also borrowed some code from c.bavota at bavotasan.com to create my numbered pagination links.

Among the WordPress plugins that I am using to make this site easier to maintain are:

Fast Secure Contact Form by Mike Challis.

Duplicate Post by Enrico Battocchi.

Post Thumbnail Editor by sewpafly

Regenerate Thumbnails by Viper007Bond

Unattach by Tamlyn

In addition, I have searched the answers to a great number of questions and problems while building my websites. Those answers ultimately came from a large group of nameless and faceless people who freely contributed their work and ideas to all free of charge. Many thanks to them all and long live the free and unencumbered internet!
