Also known as Metasequoia glyptostroboides, the Dawn Redwood is a startlingly beautiful tree. It is native to China, but there are quite a few that have been planted in the parks here in New Jersey. In this photo the bark is saturated after a heavy rain. So you can see that I have not enhanced the color, below is a shot of the entire trunk with some landscape behind it. What a difference a little rain makes.
