Near where I live there is a park with trees from all over the world including one of my favorites the Dawn Redwood (native to China – scientific name Metasequoia glyptostroboides). Two trees that I’ve seen many times before but never really took note of struck me recently. The branches hang down and the male cones from below give the impression of a fireworks display. They are Japanese Cedars (not botanically cedars – scientific name Cryptomeria japonica) and are native to Japan.
